Donald Trump talks to Canadian Mark Carney in the middle of trade tension | News Donald Trump
The US president says he and the Canadian Prime Minister ‘agree with many things’ and that he will meet after the election of Canada next month.
President Donald Trump says that with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had an “extremely productive call” in the midst of tension and escalation trade war between the United States and his northern neighbor.
In a post on the social media that described the call on Friday, the US president sounded conciliatory to Canada. Significantly, Trump called himself the correct title of Prime Minister after a months -long call of Carney’s predecessor on the Canadian leader Justin Trudeau “governor”.
“I just finished talking to Prime Minister Mark Carney from Canada,” Trump wrote.
“It was an extremely productive call, we agree with many things and we will meet immediately after the upcoming elections of Canada to work on the elements of politics, business and all other factors, which will be great for both the United States and Canada.”
Although the statement lacked specifics, it marked a change in tone from Trump’s threats and hostile rhetoric towards Canada, which included repeated calls to annex the country and make it its 51.
The conversations on Friday were the first between the two leaders since Carney inherited Trudeau two weeks ago.
The call came less than 24 hours after Carney forcibly reprimanded Trump to increase tariff on Canadian goods. The US president has announced 25 percent of the levy on foreign cars, starting on Wednesday.
“I reject any attempts to weaken Canada, to wear us out, to break us, so that America could own us. That will never happen,” Carney said on Thursday.
He also suggested that the US-Kanade relationships had passed dramatic transformation because of Trump.
“The old relationship we had with the United States – based on deepening the integration of our economies and narrow safety and military cooperation – is over,” Canadian Prime Minister reporters told.
Still, Carney said he was looking forward to talking to Trump to solve questions between the two countries.
The Canadian Prime Minister visited the United Kingdom and France after taking over. He has not yet gone to the United States – traditionally Ottawi’s closest ally and trade partner.
On Thursday, he emphasized the need for Canada to “turn” their trade relations away from now.
Earlier this week, Trump warned Ottawa and the European Union against the association against Washington, threatening “far larger” tariffs against both.
Canada should be held on April 28. Carney’s Liberal Party has grown on polling stations in the last few weeks, in part because of a change in his leadership After Trudeau’s Osignja, as well as disposal with the US.
