David Warner has no idea if he can turn English into fans when he returns to the Lord this summer, but refuses to run him with a “myth” bazball.
Now 38 years, Warner has spent most of his career as a villain Pantomime in the ash rivalry, routinely serving as lightning for hostility of England fans.
He was even involved in an ugly showdown with members in the historic long room after the controversial Jonny Bairstrow, who ran into the 2023 Lord’s test.
But he could find himself in an unusual position to urinate the same crowd after signing a 120,000 -pound contract to present London Spirit in this season’s tournament.
The man himself admits that he does not take anything for granted.
“We will have to wait until I step into that park first, right? Then we will see how the reception is,” he said.
“I’ll have to go past the long room to get to the locker room first!
“If they want to show me up, be me, but don’t be afraid of the team. We didn’t play there for the Australian cricket team so they could cheer for themselves a little, but most importantly to cheer on it.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I know England are crowds and that excites me.”
Warner’s own ash days are done now, but the anticipation for this winter tour is already under construction. It does not need a lot of pressure for the stubborn opener to make the former favorites of the entrance to the urn, adding a warning about the effectiveness of English aggression in Australian conditions.
“I don’t know if Bazball is a myth now, but I don’t see that this is happening in Australia,” he said.
“With a bounce and everything, Fields Australia set up last time in England, it would be a lot of risk to play in Australia.
“It’s probably not a way to get it. If that goes … it will be high pace, high energy and we’ll all get a few days off in the last end.”
Surprisingly, Warner supported the idea of his new London ghost colleague Dan Worrall, who joined England on time for that series. The 33-year-old Surrey Seamer played three ODOs for Australia together with Warner 2016, but it became acceptable for its adopted nation this summer and was a fertile bowler for Surrey.
“If he puts it on the jersey, I’ll still support the day itself,” he said.
“Apart from Jimmy Anderson swinging that pink ball on Adelaide oval, there was no guy who could get the ball to talk to Wickket as Dan Worrall could.
“I think if he got that opportunity, it would be fantastic for him. It would be interesting to see the audience receive him in Adelaida when he returned to his home crowd.”
