David Marcus: Inside Colony Ridge, where illegal migrants hide and roads do not lead anywhere

But we didn’t need a ticket while we relaxed police implementation, and it was certainly five minutes later, in the middle of bizarre expansion, we pulled to two cruisers of Liberty Sheriff and two unmarked cars with a flash of light.

Elizabeth and I headed for the Taco truck with an improvised bar to find four police officers of the Ministry of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Security with a light man in a T -shirt that wrote “Honduras” next to a white van without a license plate.

In the Taco Truck parking lot, the conversation between DHS clerks, a seemingly imprisoned man, was civic, almost cordial, with a few laughs. Then we saw that there were women and two children in the van, little sympathetic as a button in his blue and white football jersey of Honduras.

We wondered if this family would take away. But after much blurred stirring by the police and several files of the proven, the family was free and police cars were scattered, deeper at Colony Ridge.

Perhaps because of recent raids, there was no one in the development of 60 square kilometers, not in stores with scarce dollars, not in yards, not porches. It felt like the village of Potemkin, as if it were not real, but a kind of crowd.

Many trailers are, but others are large, with high doors, barbed wire and imaginative cars on the driveway. Patriotism was shown to the flags all around, but it was not the flag of the United States of America, it was the flag of Mexico.

I was glad the family was released. In my mind, I saw that the child had switched to the protective services of the children, scared and glad that it didn’t happen. But I don’t know if this family is legally here, if DHS simply decided that they were not a threat, and that was not a priority.

Within Colony Ridge, reality is far more complex than it would be extremely in an illegal immigration debate. These are human beings, not pieces on the game board.

It is difficult to know what a solution to the Ridge colony will be, if it will be removed from criminals, but it is allowed to stay, or if it is dismantled through a state or federal action. But in any case, it is a testimony to the destructive force of our policy open border.

The exclusion of the border is an obvious and good first start, but what about millions already here? In Colony Ridge and across America, that question still remains to answer.
