Oscar Piastra beat Land Norris in McLaren One-Two while dominated by the Chinese Grand Prix, and Lewis Hamilton finished sixth in his second race for Ferrari.
Pole-Sitter Piastra never looked like he had given up his victory, his third F1 career, and gave the perfect answer after ending up at his home event in Melbourne last weekend.
Norris suffered a brake problem in the final circles, but was second to George Russell, who made the podium backwards to start the season in third place.
Max Verstappen overtook Charles Leclerca fourth in the big battle in the latest stages of Grand Prix to limit damage and laged eight points for Norris in the driver’s championship.
Hamilton ended up in a lonely sixth because he was unable to make a two -rate race compared to other front runners in one place.
After winning Saturday’s Sprint, it was expected that Hamilton would fight for the upper places, but he rarely showed a great pace and was asked to let Leclerc go early in the race
The Ferrari duo made contact in the initial circle, and Leclerc damaged the front wing, but that did not affect his pace.
Esteban Ocon scored his first points for Haas in the seventh, in front of Mercedes ‘Kimi Antonelli and Williams’ Alex Albona in ninth.
British teenager Oliver Bearman impressed the terrain in the second half of the race on an alternative strategy to finish at the last point in 10th place.
