Chelsea at risk of champions league ban
Chelsea is considered to be deposited by expanding its model with multiple air conditioning due to a conflict of interest that presented the potential involvement of the Strasbourg sister club in the Champions League.
BlueCo, a consortium that was first Todd Boehly and US Clearlake Capital Private Capital Capital owned Chelsea since 2022 and expanded its portfolio clubs with Procurement of the French side of Strasbourg in June 2023.
UEFA regulations prohibit one entity to directly or indirectly control two teams in the same competition. UEFA President Alexander Ceferin has previously hinted at a Wiggle room in these limitations, but nothing significant appeared, which made Chelsea seriously reconsider his investment in several teams.
“There is definitely an influence,” said an unnamed source Telegraph. “There is not so much incentive for owners to invest in European clubs, as part of a structure with more germs if they can’t be competitive.
“Owners who already have European clubs think about buying more, while some of those who planned to buy a European club started looking for somewhere else or just completely pausing the idea.”
Strasbourg sits seventh in Ligue 1, but in one win of the top six, which guarantees access to UEFA competitions and only four points in the fourth and finals Champions League A video of qualifications.
In case the two members of the same project with Multi-Club qualify for the same European competition, the side with the highest rank in their home-notch flight is an advantage. So if Strasbourg ends up higher in Ligue 1 from Chelsea in Premier leagueBluesi would be denied access to the Champions League and instead had to agree on the second level of the continent.
Manchester United risked this scenario last season. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos has a 27.7% stake in red devils and has a majority ownership of the French side of Nice. Both teams qualified for the 2024/25 Europa League, and Nice ended the fifth in Ligue 1 and an eight -ranked United who won the FA Cup.
According to UEFA regulations, United would be demolished in the conference league, but Ineos transferred his shares into blind confidence by July 1, 2025 to avoid any conflict of interest. Chelsea Can be advised to do the same solution.
