At least one person was killed and the other was injured when the car ran into a crowd in the western German city MannheimPolice say they ask the public to be kept away from the city area.
Police spokesman Stefan Wilhelm said the driver entered a group of people in Paradeplatz on Monday, a square in the Mannheim pedestrian area.
He said “several” people were injured, but the police could not yet specify how much they were injured or how bad they were hurt.
“We can confirm that one perpetrator is arrested,” he said. “We still can’t give information about whether they are further perpetrators.”
Paradeplatz, the main square in the city center, is located at the end of the infantry street in Mannheim, which has a population of 326,000 and is 85 km (52 miles) south of Frankfurt.
Mannheim University Hospital said it was prepared for a possible incident for mass victims, the German DPA news agency reported. The hospital implemented its disaster and emergency plan to prepare for the care of the injured.
The incident comes the day after Mannheim held a street parade, the main event in his annual celebrations of the carnival. Broad Germany, many have been resting for a long weekend to celebrate the carnival, including Rose on Monday, when many cities hold parade.
German cities have recently seen several violent attacks, including the stabs of breakthrough and car attacks.
Last month, a man drove a car to a union demonstration in the southern city of Munich, killing a two -year -old girl and her mother.

She canceled her visit to Rose Monday’s Parade in Cologne for an event in Mannheim, a spokesman for the Minister said.
