While Americans are planning trips abroad after the disappearance of US student Sudixha Konanki, a secret service veteran and a trip expert offered guidelines to stay on a safe vacation.

“I think when it comes to travel security, whether studying abroad or for a spring break, there are several things that students or anyone should be careful when they go to these types of locations,” said Bobby McDonald, a secret service agent with experience in presidential, vice -presidential and dignitation protection for Fox News Digital.

Konaki, a 20-year-old student at the Pittsburgh University of Virginia, who was on spring vacation in the Dominican Republic, disappeared from the Riu Republic of Punta Cani in the early morning of March 6.

McDonald, professor of criminal judiciary at the University of New Haven, advised spring burglaries to stay near the areas known while meeting Travel abroad.

“You want to try to stay on the property, on the resort, if you will,” he said. “Once you get off the property, you can find yourself very quickly in an area you don’t want to be.”

Traveling in groups is also the most important thing, he added, noting that Spring Breakers should not be separated from each other.

“You know, we want our students to go out and have a good time and blow money, but you have to be so careful. And again, run in packages with your group,” McDonald said. “Stay in and around the hotel. If you are at the hotel and there is something to go wrong, know where you would go.

“For example, I believe they had a break of electricity that night at a hotel where the young lady was staying, and reports indicate that everyone went to the beach to cool somehow. Everyone was there in the packaging, we hope, somehow they dealt with the situation and looked after each other.”

Several guests in Rio Republic at the time of Konanki’s disappearance posted in their accounts on social networks about the disappearance of power and water at a five -star resort. D’ani Sweeney, who was a guest at the resort when Konanki disappeared, he told Fox News Digital The situation was “chaotic” in the resort.

The resort said that the interruption of electricity did not play any role in Konanki’s disappearance, saying that the renewed power was before Konanki was reported that he was gone.

“An electric interruption occurred during the early hours on Tuesday, March 4, until Wednesday, March 5, especially at 1:27 in the morning,” said Marc Miralles Pons, spokesman Riu Republica, for Fox News Digital. “Two hours later, the service was returned to 70%, while the remaining power was fully returned on Wednesday until Thursday, especially at 02:13, which is before the disappearance time.”

It is believed that Konanka disappeared at about 4:30 on March 6.

If a friend disappears abroad, McDonald has set up a protocol to deal with the situation.

“The first thing you need to do is report it to the hotel,” he said. “Second, you need to call the hotel and help find that person, which is the time of moving, you have to inform the US consulate or the US embassy.

“Whenever we travel outside the United States, you should have the number of Consulates of the United States or the United States Embassy where you are going so you can quickly pull it to the phone and inform the embassy that you may need help,” McDonald added. “Do you want to include someone from the State Department in this very quickly if someone from your party disappears.”

Disappearances of women like Konanki and Natalee Holloway, who disappeared in Aruba in 2005 during graduating from high school, have become high cases over the years. However, men are not immune from these guidelines for travel security, McDonald warned.

“I think, traditionally, we think more women are targeted,” he said. “But no, I think men are as sensitive to the infamous activities in such locations as women. And they must be very careful.”

While the men who are the last to be seen with a missing woman are often the subject of intense supervision, McDonald said that security supervision is now a prevailing part of everyday life, which should give them a measure of comfort.

“There are safety cameras everywhere,” he said. “So, whether you are on a corner on a street in New York, whether you are at the Punta Cana resort, there are safety cameras everywhere. So if you do nothing you have to do, you have nothing to worry about. But remember that there is a lot of space to have full coverage of safety cameras. In other words, there are pieces.
