The Federal Communications Commission creates a national security council to enhance the US defense against Chinese Cyber attacks and helped him stay in front of China in critical technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
Brendan Carr, Novi FCC The chairman said that he established the Council to enhance the focus of the agency on the “permanent and permanent threat of foreign opponents, especially the Chinese communist party.”
“These bad actors always explore ways of violating our networks, devices and technological ecosystems. It is more important than ever before FCC remains awake and protecting Americans and American companies from these threats, “he said.
He added that, since threats were cut by sectors where the Commission had regulated, “it is important that FCC efforts for national security withdraw resources from different FCC organizations.”
Carr said the Council would have a number of goals, including the relief of the US vulnerability on cyber attacks, spies and supervision by enemy states and reducing the addiction to the opponent’s supply chain.
He added that he would also try to ensure that he “wins strategic competition China Through critical technologies ”, including 5G and 6g, AI, satellite and space, quantum calculation and autonomous systems.
The Council will run Adam Chan, a lawyer who previously worked on the Chinese Committee of the House of Representatives, who created Congress in 2023 to focus on the safety threats of Beijing.
Although FCC has traditionally focused on regulating telecommunications providers, its role has expanded as the battle between Washington and Beijing over the technology of amplifiers.
The Commission is responsible for issues that are wide as well as certification of drones in the regulation of critical subgroups of communication cables-only two areas where the US has become disturbed by growing threats of national security from China.
Expected to be an early focus Salty typhoon, Middle -month -old attack on US telecommunications networks that have made hackers aiming for non -haid phone calls that former US national security advisor Jake Sullivan said he was “unique” in terms of his pure proportions.
FCC is one of several agencies involved in helping telecommunication companies to strengthen their networks and stop the onset.
Creating a Council is the latest effort of the US government to accept a complete and focused approach to a wide range of Chinese threats by bringing resources of different agencies.
In 2021, CIA created a “Chinese mission center” to increase the focus of the Beijing agency. State department created a similar structure known as the “China House”. In the trade department, the industry and security bureau has increased efforts to make China make it difficult to get critical American technology, especially in the areas of AI and chips.
The new council is expected to transfer the focus of FCC’s individual Chinese entities to a sectoral approach. Some critics of American efforts to solve the threats of Beijing have pointed to the holes that have made it possible for him to bypass the criminal actions, such as the Chinese group changing its name.
“This council shows that the Chairman Carr wants to rise the Chinese agent under his leadership and predicts that the FCC as a front-line tool in the Chinese competition is similar to what BIS has become,” said Eric Sayers, an Asia safety expert on Think-Tank American Enterprise Institute.
Sayers said the Council will counteract China in less traditional areas, such as clouds, AI data centers, drones, connected vehicles, “Internet of Things” and consumer electronics devices.
