Government Efficiency Department (Doge) led Elon musk Works to reduce federal consumption, reduce government labor and increase the effectiveness of federal agencies.
Doge was created by the president Donald Trump Through the executive command he signed on the day of the inauguration. According to the order, Doge will be a temporary organization in the White House, which will spend 18 months to 4 July 2026, performing its mission.

What was cut or targeted?
Doge focused most of his initial work on Cancellation of the Dei programCounseling of contracts and break -up for federal buildings.
Doga wrote on February 4th that he had canceled 12 contracts in the Government’s Management Board and the Ministry of Education, which resulted in a total savings of about $ 30 million. He also canceled 12 underdeveloped tenants of savings of $ 3 million.
February 3, Doge said he had canceled 36 contracts, leading to a savings of about $ 165 million in six agencies.

Musk and Doge have also focused on US International Development Agency (USAID) as a goal for potential savings. The USAID was created in the early 1960s to provide assistance around the world, especially for impoverished and underdeveloped regions. The agency currently operates from 60 countries and employs 10,000 people, according to the Congress Research Service.
The USAID website darkened, and his employees were forbidden to enter his headquarters on Monday, while others had their work. Trump’s administration announced on Tuesday that all USAIDs staff will be put on an administrative leave from February 7th.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio was appointed acting director of the Independent Agency, and Trump’s administration signaled that some parts of the USAID may absorb state department.

How much did Doga saved?
Doge on January 28 announced that the group “saves the federal government approximately billion dollars/day, mainly from stopping employment of people to unnecessary positions, deletion of Dei and stop irregular payments to foreign organizations, all in accordance with the president’s executive director of the command.”
“A good start, although this number has to increase to> $ 3 billion a day,” Doge added.
Doga did not provide a detailed clearing of his cuts, so it is not clear how he calculates the savings he claims.
On January 31, Musk claimed that “it is cautiously optimistic that this weekend we will achieve a reduction of $ 4 billion/day FY2026.”
He previously suggested that it would be necessary to reduce an average of $ 4 billion a day to reduce the federal deficit by $ 1 billion in fiscal 2026, but did not announce the monitoring about whether the goal was reached.

Most federal consumption comes from compulsory consumption programs like Social security and Medicare, as well as interest on state debt.
