Ugandin Jacob Kipmo became the first person to break the 57-minute barrier for a half marathon, amazing amazing time of the new world record of 56 minutes, 42 seconds in Barcelona.

The 24-year-old set a record on Sunday at the World Athletics Gold Label Road race.

Kipmo is a double world champion who held a half marathon record from 2021 to 2024. He repeated it by reducing 48 seconds from the previous record 57:30, which was set up in October by Yomif Kejelch in Ethiopia.

It is the biggest individual improvement in the half marathon record of the male world.

Races in ideal weather conditions of 13 degrees Celsius (55 degrees Fahrenheit) without wind, Kipamo also set the world’s best of 39:47 for 15 KM (9.3 miles) on the way to the semi -marathon record.

“I am very excited about what I did today,” said Kipmo, who made his debut Olympic in the 5000 MU Rio de Janeiro race when he was only 15 years old.

“I started hard, I wanted to have a great race, but I didn’t expect to knock down the world record.

“As the miles went through and I saw that I was going with a record, I told myself that I had to maintain that pace no matter what it was.”
