Hunter Schafer, a transgender wife and star of the HBO teenage drama Euphoria, said the new American passport cites as a man, despite choosing a female when she fulfilled her paperwork.

“I was shocked,” Schafer said in a Tictok video showing the “M” marker on his new travel document. Her previous passport cited her as a woman.

“I just didn’t think it would actually happen,” the 26-year-old added, criticizing US President Donald Trump’s policy about gender.

On the first day in power, Trump signed an executive command that recognized only two sexes and stated that they could not change. Now they are issuing passports with only male or female markings, based on a sex of a person recorded at birth.

Previously, Americans could choose their gender for passports, and also asked to be listed as “X”, for which the biden administration said that in 2022 it was offered as an option “for non-bonical, intersex and gender persons who do not confirm individuals. “

Schafer said she was applying for a new passport after losing her old one while shooting abroad.

She met the patterns in which she showed that she was a female, but when she picked up a replacement, she listed her as a male, according to her post.

Schafer said she intended to travel abroad next week and expect challenges at the airport for a new passport.

She said she believed it was “a direct result of the administration in which our country is currently operating.”

Trump’s executive order says of male and female sexes that “they are not variable and founded in fundamental and indisputable reality.”

He adds: “” Sex “is not synonymous with and does not include the concept of a” gender identity “.”

The American State Department, who issues passports, says on his website that he “will only issue passports with a m or f sex marker that corresponds to the buyer’s biological gender at birth.”

After learning about Trump’s executive order, Schafer said her first reaction was: “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

“I saw it today,” she told the fans.

Schafer added: “I just feel like it is important to share that this is not just a conversation – that this is real and happens to anyone – no matter what their circumstances, no matter how rich or white or beautiful or anything – excluded . “

The Euphoria star said she had changed her gender markers for driving license and passport when she was a teenager, but that her birth certificate was never changed.

“I’m pretty sure it will come along with I have to deal with border patrol agents and the whole gig, much more often than I would like or really need,” she said.

On HBO drama, now in his third season, she plays a transgender teenager, Jules Vaughn, who has a complicated relationship with the main character Rue.
