The wage growth in the UK accelerates in the last quarter of 2024

The growth of wages accelerated at the end of last year, according to official data that will add pressure on the Bank of England as it tries to reduce inflation.
The average week of regular earnings in three months by December was 5.9 percent more than a year earlier, compared to 5.6 percent in three months to November, the National Statistics Office said on Tuesday. The character was in line with the expectations of economists.
The acceleration of wage growth was stronger in the private sector, where the average earnings, excluding bonuses, increased by 6.2 percent. Wages in the public sector rose 4.7 percent.
At the same time, employment in the salary decreased by 14,000 between November and December, and in three months until December it was 3000 lower than in the previous quarter, according to ONS, citing HM revenues and customs data.
Early estimates for January have shown that the number of wages employees has increased by 21,000 since December.
The director of Economic Statistics ons LIZ McKeown said: “Growing salary, excluding bonuses, increased in a third time in a row, with an increase in both the private and public sector.”
