“The most dangerous time,” says the Journalist Protection Committee after 2024.


The new report of the Journalist Protection Committee said on Wednesday that in 2024 he recorded a record number of journalists killed around the world – which has been marked by a sudden increase in the killings of journalists and media workers in conflict zones over the years.

He said that the previous record high deaths were in 2007, when 113 journalists lost their lives, almost half because of the war in Iraq.

The Committee said that at least 24 of the 124 journalists were killed in 2024 were found to be intentionally targeted for their work, adding that 10 of these cases were documented in Gaza and Lebanon.

The committee noted that although these specific cases fulfill their classification of intentional killings, this should not imply that other murders at their database are considered lawful, but that it failed to determine if they were separated for their profession.
