The collision of an aircraft in São Paulo, Brazil, kills two
A small plane crashed on the road in São Paulo, Brazil, at about 7:20 in the morning, on Friday, killing both people on board and injuring several people on the ground, according to the City Fire Department.
Six people sustained minor injuries and were not in serious condition. One of them was a passing motorcyclist. The other five were passengers on the bus that hit part of the plane, according to Captain Ronaldo Melo, spokesman for São Paula Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived at the scene just before 7:30 in the morning, finding a plane and a bus in the fire, Captain Melo said. “The fire was very aggressive,” he added. The bus passengers all escaped from the vehicle before the fire began, he said.
Videos on social media showed the remains of aircraft on fire, as well as a large black smoke shower that rises in the air.
It is unclear what caused the incident, but the plane seemed to crash shortly after taking off. Avenida Marques de São Vicente hit the main road in Barra Funda’s neighborhood, about four miles from the Campo de Marte Airport, where the plane took off.
The plane was on its way to Porto Alegre, almost 700 miles south of São Paula.
About three hours after the collision, the fire department left the scene, said Captain Melo.
