The Shoah Museum in Rome bought a piece of reserved contemporary pop artist Alexandra Palombo after being educated in an apparent the act of anti -Semitism.
The Mural, which shows Liliana Segre and Modiano, the last two Italian survivors of Auschwitz, has been broken several times and even deleted the vandal.
Segre and Modiano are shown in striped clothing under green vests resistant to bullets with the yellow stars of David on them, and there are even depictions of serial numbers tattooed by the Nazis. The perpetrators destroyed the faces of Segre and Modiano, as well as the stars on their chest, but left the numbers on their hands intact.
“They took my face, my identity, they wiped the yellow star, but I was left by a tattooing number on my arm,” Segre said.

Palombo eventually reproduced the piece, and now it is part of a permanent collection of museums.
“Art is the highest expression of freedom and repeatedly attacks the work depicting two survivors Auschwitz emphasizes that the very value of democracy and all our freedom is in danger,” Palomobo said in a statement. “The gesture of the courage and resistance of the Museum of Rome Shoah and the Italian Jewish Community is a great and valuable lesson of civilization for all of us, who responded to antisemic violence and hatred of these new forms of social and cultural terrorism with a strong action of rosorgimento. “
Palombo made several pieces in honor of the Holocaust, and his other works were not spared from vandalism.
A piece called “Arbeit Macht Frei”, which shows that the Hungarian writer and survivor Holocaust Edith Bruck wrapped in the Israeli flag and most of the flag was deleted. The title of this mural is the same phrase that the Nazis put on the door of Auschwitz, which means “work makes you free.”
Bruck told an Italian newspaper La wire That she was sad, but not surprised by vandalism, saying that “anti -Semitism is tsunami.”
Bruck’s Mural also bought the Shoah Museum in Rome.

Another of Palomb’s pieces that were vandalized was entitled “Halt! Stoj!”, Which portrayed Segre, Modiano and Burk together with Pope Francis, which is equipped with a cross, and the inscription that reads “Anti -Semitism is everywhere.” Four are shown as Simpson’s signs, which is a common motive for Palombo. While the Pope’s picture was not damaged, the vandals were defloumated by the David stars on three Holocaust survivors.

Palombo, a contemporary pop artist and activist, used pop culture references in his works of art, including glorious figures and characters from the cartoon from Simpson and Disney. One of his most famous works is “Simpson deported to Auschwitz”, which depicts Marge, Homer, Maggie, Bart and Lis before and after the concentration camp, referenced by the torn states of the survivors of the Holocausts released from Nazi campsites.
