Politicians, musicians and celebrities have arrived in their most glamorous look for one of the biggest political events in South Africa – the address of the Nation State (Sona), which makes it almost the same about fashion as politics.
Sona is a joint seating of two parliament houses in Cape Town to mark the start of the Government’s work for the year, where President Cyril Ramaphosa paints a picture where the country stands and describes the path ahead.
In his speech, President Ramaphos spoke about the resistance of the nation, earning a mesmerizing applause when he stated: “South Africa will not be mistreated.”
His attitude comes after an American colleague Donald Trump threatened to end funding due to South Africa’s land policy.
While the management occupies the center stage, Sona has developed in a fashion spectacle over the years, and MPs have used their support clothing to local designers and exposure to South African talent.
Clothing is always a hot topic on social media, and this year is no exception.
The praise of the singer, otherwise Mateza, this year’s Imbongei (traditional praise poet), played a key role in one of the most significant son of tradition.
Through the song and dance, she recounted the life story and history of President Cyril Ramaphos, mixing a tradition with a personal touch.
She ended her performance by addressing the president with his famous nickname “Cupcake”.
The Minister of leading and sanitation in South Africa, Pemmy Majodin wore traditional clothing and spectacular ear rings.
Water was a key part of Ramaphos speech, because he said there would be several investments in water projects to deal with defects that affect the entire country.
Revenge in gold, this bite is Gezani Kobana, a member of the former president of Jacob Zuma, Umkhonto We Sizwe (MK).
While MK cementing his presence in South African politics as a major opposition party, figures like Kobane are drawing attention to both their political attitude and for their characteristic style.
But Zuma was not present because he was involved in his current trial of corruption charges for a weapon agreement. He denies any injustice.
Outside Parliament, there is a red carpet for guests and ministers to hit the pose.
South African politician and traditional Pondo Mwelo Nonkonyan leader, who is now serving at the congress of traditional southern Africa leaders in the eastern Cape, has shown the style of his community, along with the staff.
The Julius Malem Party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) arrived at their red overalls. The party disrupted the previous son, but this year they were relatively calm.
Malema expressed disappointment in the speech of President Ramaphos and told the local television presenter Enca, it was just a “waffle”.
Parliament members were dressed in nine while listening to speech.
Now starts hard work.
