He was originally to start in January 2024, but the defense team of Mr. Matar urged that the trial of delay on the basis of what the then upcoming book of Mr. Rushdie – a memoir about the attack – could be used as evidence, and the team of the defendant wanted to review his content first.
In October, the trial was put on hold after Mr. Matar’s legal team filed a request to move the trial to another county.
According to the New York Post, Mr. Matar’s lawyers claimed that the defendant risked an unjust trial in Chautauqua County Court in Mayfield, given the publicity about the high profile case and the lack of Arabian-American communities in Small County.
The request was unsuccessful and the trial will be held at Chautauqua’s district as planned.

Henry Reese, an event moderator that Mr Rushdie attended the Chautauqua institution in Western New York, was also injured in the attack.
Separately from Chautauqua District Court, Mr. Matar has accused the Federal Court of Providing Material Support with a militant group based in Lebanon Hezbollah, According to the indictment released last July.
Hezbollah was proclaimed a terrorist organization of Western states, Israel, bay of Arab countries and the Arab league.
Mr. Rushdie, who is now 77, is a well -known writer who has previously spent several years hiding after the 1988 Satanic verses.
The surrealistic, postmodern novel caused anger among some Muslims, who considered their content blasphemous – insulting religion or God – and was forbidden in some countries.
