Qatar Open: Iga Swiatek beat Elena Rybakin in flat sets to reach the quarterfinals in Doho | Tennis news
Iga Swiatek remained on the way to the fourth consecutive title at the Qatar Open with a victory over Elena Rybakin in the quarterfinals.
In the repeated finals in Doha, Swiatek recovered from the interruption in the second set and asked for a 6-2 7-5 victory.
Swiatek becomes the first woman with the longest winning series on Qatar Open since the tournament started in 2001 with 15 consecutive wins.
“I’m super happy, super proud of myself,” the Pilla said. “The second set I felt like she had raised the level, so I should have done it too.”
Rybakina started a year with 4-2 advantages in her head against Swiadar, but this is now a level after the world number two followed her victory on United Cup last month with another success.
Swiatek started a much better competition, but Rybakina began to reach attraction with her strong serving and moves at the beginning of the second set, opening a 4-2 lead.
Still, she couldn’t maintain an advantage, and Swiatek recalled a break before she won when Rybakina was twice as well.
The second seed has joined in the last four in the form of ecateur Alexander.
Rus, who arrived in Qatar full of confidence after winning the WTA Tour event in Linz, followed his victory in the second round over the World number one Aryna Sabalenka, beating sixth seed of Jessica Pegula 4-6 6-1 6-1.
