The Pope responds to drug therapy and the sepsis has not been detected.

Pope Francis is not considered life-threatening, but he is not out of danger, his medical team said because the 88-year-old PontiFs continued his treatment in the fight pneumonia and complex lung infection.

At their first personal update of the Pope’s condition, Francis’s personal doctor, Luigi Carbone and a surgeon at a hospital in Rome Gemelli, Sergio Alfieri, sought to convince the public.

Francis responded to drug therapy that was “reinforced” after a lung pneumonia was diagnosed earlier this week, they said. He also fought a multiple infection of bacteria and viruses in a respiratory tract.

Doctors said there was no evidence that the germs had entered his bloodstream, a condition known as sepsis that could lead to organ and death failure.

However, he will probably stay in the hospital “at least all the next week”, as there was still a risk that the infection could be expanded to other body parts.

Francis also received extra oxygen when needed through the nasal canil, a thin, flexible tube that carries oxygen through the nose.

The head of the Catholic Church was admitted to the Gemelli Roman hospital on February 14th after the Bronchitis case was worse. The doctors later diagnosed with a complex respiratory infection, which includes bacteria, virus and other organisms and the beginning of pneumonia in both lungs at the top of asthmatic bronchitis.

There is no provision in the canonical law what to do if the Pope becomes incapable. Pope Benedict XVI. “He opened the door” retired, but Francis did not show the signs to step down.

During his stay at the hospital, he continued to work, including the appointment of a bishop.

According to Alfieri, Francis managed to get out of bed and sit on his armchair to work and maintain a “good appetite”.

The medical team also called on the media to avoid reporting on unverified news after the rumors appeared that the Pope’s health had turned to even worse.
