‘Palestinians can’t be transferred’ from Gaza, says Jordans FM | Israel-Palestine News of Conflict
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi tells Al Jazeera that Jordan continues to oppose Trump’s Gaza download plan.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Al Jazeera said that the kingdom would not oppose his opposition by US President Donald Trump’s proposal to move Palestinians to other countries, such as Jordan and Egypt.
His comments come after Jordan’s King Abdullah II met Trump In the White House on Tuesday, where the latter repeated on the briefing that he would now take over the surrounded tape of gauze emptied from its inhabitants, a proposal that critics say that ethnic cleansing is effective, forced expulsion of people from their homeland.
“There are fixed and unwavering Jordanic positions that will not change … Palestinians cannot move to Egypt, Jordan or any Arab state,” Safada said in an interview with Al Jazeera.
“We will work on a righteous peace, which cannot happen without the implementation of a solution with two states that guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to freedom and an independent sovereign state in their Palestinian homeland.”
Both Jordan and Egypt refused to accept forcibly displaced Palestinians. The Palestinian administration, Hamas and Arabic nations are united in their unwavering opposition to Trump’s plan. China also stated firmly, “Gaza belongs to Palestinians.”
During the meeting with Trump, Abdullah avoided directly contrary to Trump, alluding to the alternative plan that Egypt would discover soon.
Asked if Jordan would take over Palestine displaced from Gaza, the Jordanian leader said he would do what was “best” for his country. He added that Jordan would take 2,000 sick Palestinian children who needed treatment.
Jordan is currently home to more than 2 million Palestinian refugees in his population of 11 million people.
Safadi said that the Arab states are now working on formulating a Gaza renewal plan “without the transfer of their people”, which will be presented after being ready.
“The US president presented some ideas. And, his majesty presented some ideas, “he said.
Trump again emphasized that Palestinians would not want to stay in Gaza, seemingly rejecting his deep attachment to his country.
Critics say that his vision for Gaza – remodeled with the hotels, offices and atmosphere of “Riviera” – seems to be divorced from the policy of the region and that this is not a second opportunity for real estate. The Palestinians have long endured pressure to force them from their remaining territory, despite the decades of the continuation of Israeli occupation and bombing.
