If there is one thing Gerwyn Price has been radiating lately, it is positivity and uses that feeling that he is encouraged to play his best darts in the Premier League.
Since the World Championships in Darts, Price has been refreshed and shows all the right applications on stage, admitting that his darts feel the best they have been in for a long time.
The 2021 World Champion even remained delighted after a quarterfinals in the premier league in Belfast in a 6-4 defeat of Chris Dobey, quickly led himself to the social media to thank the audience for their “incredible support”.
Although he cannot accurately determine what has changed for him, he attributes work with a sports psychologist for “different energy” he feels in the Premier League for 2025.
“I think I’ve been in this tournament since 2018. Obviously 2021, when I won the World Cup, I tested a positive about Covid, so that’s the only year I missed,” Price said.
“But every year it was just, here it is again, and this year it simply feels different. I don’t know if it has to do with a sports psychologist or miss a lot of tournaments last year and descending on the ladder.
“I’m not sure what it is, but I just feel a different, much more positive energy around me. And I just feel a lot more focused.”
Although the story was engaged in enemy crowds more often than most when it was at big stages, this was not something he thought he needed to talk to his sports psychologist.
Instead, they captured the levels that can reach and remind Welshman how good a player he is.
“We didn’t really talk about the crowd. We talked about me and what I brought on stage,” he added.
“The psychologist I spoke with was Darts’s fan and reminded me that, like Darts players, we are entertainers, we have to enjoy it while we are up.
“It just reminded me of the things I did in the past and how well I played, how well I can play and how much I can improve.
“And just by talking to someone and someone that gives you a little good comment and positivity, sometimes it really helps.”
Get out of the Limelight “hit the back”
The interview during the last 12 months in Darts has been focused on 18-year-old world champion Luka Littler and his rivalry with the characters of the world no. 1 Luke Humphries and Colleague 2025 World Cup finalists in Darts Michael Van Gerwen.
For the price, the lack of attention and giving up these conversations, he gave him an incentive to ensure that he was one of the best performers, even motivating him to put him on a practice plate for several hours.
“Probably that step back from the light helped and probably gives you a blow to the foreign thinking that you need to return to it this year,” Price said.
“I’m not huge in practice (time wise), but I put a lot more time on the board. So, things look good and the games go in the right direction.
“It’s good to have a good feeling. I think I got into the masters of Bahrain Darts. I lost 8-4 against Stephen (Bunting), and then somehow ran out of gas and repeated the same against Rob Cross (in Dutch dart masters).
“But besides feeling tired and going out and losing in the finals, I felt good, and I felt good in the masters last week, but just the same old story. I miss a couple of couples and just let people go. And that’s a little frustrating .
“But I think this tournament deeper is now, I play a lot more weeks of the week, competitive thoughts that I will improve.
