Costco, teams reach a convincing contract, avoiding strike
Costco and the Teamsters Union have reached a suspended agreement on a new contract, avoiding a strike, the union announced on Saturday.
Matthew Mcquaid team spokesman confirmed an agreement that will have to be approved by members. The details of the agreement are not immediately available. Associated Press left a message looking for a comment with Costcom.
The Teamsters Federation represents 18,000 Costco workers in six countries: California, Washington, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and New York. Overall, Costco has 219,000 US employees and 617 US stores. The company has announced that its work Agreement with Teamsters refers to less than 10% of these stores.
On January 20, Teamster members in Costco voted irresistibly for the benefit of the strike if a new three -year contract was not reached until midnight on Friday, when the current contract expired.
Union members wanted Issaquah, Washington, the company to make a contractual offer that reflects its sales and growth growth. Costc’s revenue increased by $ 5% to $ 254 billion in its latest fiscal year, which ended on September 1. The company reported a net income of $ 7.36 billion, which doubled its profit in 2019.
“Costco Teamsters deserve a leading contract that reflects a huge earning of the company. If Costco thinks I can use our members while in billions, we will close them, “said General President Teamster Sean O’Brien in a statement.
