Club World Cup: Chelsea and Man City load will not alleviate the Premier League without delaying the season | Football news
The Premier League told Chelsea and Manchester City that they would not be allowed to delay the start of fixing next season to try to help them – and recover from – additional matches they should play in this summer FIFA Club World Cup.
City is the worst hit by the congestion of the calendar because during this season they could face an additional 11 games as a result of their involvement in new international club competitions.
FIFA -ini remodeled and extended tournament for the first time in June and July this year. The finals of the World Cup club is July 13 – less than five weeks before the start of the new Premier League season on August 16th.
The city, like other British teams involved in the European competition, have already played two additional group games in the Champions League this season, but manages to automatically qualify for the knockout phase, 16 are confronted.
Pepa Guardiola’s side is guaranteed that he will face an additional three group games in the summer in the World Cup club, with possible four further games in the knockout stages if they go all the way to the finals.

“We watched,” said the CEO of the Premier League Tony Scholes.
“We are imposing this to us, especially by FIFA. So, there is an element that says, why would we adjust the competition when we have imposed a competition with which we disagree?
“However, a significant element is that we simply cannot. The calendar is squeezed out as much as it can be at the moment and we cannot afford a delay at the beginning of the season.”
What is the World Cup in the club?
Before being diverted for the 2025 tournament, the club’s World Cup took place every year in December, and was challenged by the winners of competition at a continental club from around the world.
For example, the winners of the UEFA Champions League would participate in the tournament every year and face continental colleagues from South America (Conmebol), Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), North America (Concacaf) and Oceania (OFC).
But then Fifa announced in December that the competition would expand to 32 club teams and that it would be held every four years.
In order to replace the annual competition, the intercontinental Cup will be played annually and the Champions League winner will play in the finals against the team coming through the intercontinental playoffs.
When is the World Cup of the Club 2025?
The club’s World Cup will be held during the 29 days in the summer of 2025.
The tournament begins on June 15, and the finals took place on July 13th.
What is the World Cup format?
The tournament format works exactly the same as the FIFA World Cup, only for clubs.
32 teams are divided into eight groups of four teams, and the best two teams in each group qualify for the knockout stage.
Last-16 phase-first single knockout circle-then moves to the quarterfinals, semifinals and then finally. There is no third place play-off between the two lost semi-final teams.
