At least 58 dead and 1,300 others sick after the cholera outbreak during the three -day period in Sudan, the officials say
Nearly 60 people have been killed in the southern Sudanese city and have become ill in 1300 others in the last three days, health authorities said on Saturday.
The outbreak in the southern city of bones is wrong for contaminated drinking water after the city water factory stopped due to the attack of the infamous paramilitary group, the Ministry of Health said. The group has been fighting a military land for about two years.
The Ministry said in a statement that the disease had killed 58 people and fell down 1,293 others between Thursday and Saturday.
The Ministry said it had taken a series of measures to fight the epidemic, including the launch of a cholera vaccination campaign in the city.
The disease killed more than 600 and fell up over 21,000 others between July and October last year.
Cholera is a very contagious disease that causes diarrhea, which leads to severe dehydration and can be fatal if it is not treated immediately, according to WHO. It is transmitted by swallowing contaminated food or water.
