What is Lemon8 social media app?
Social media app Lemon8 has been in the spotlight as a potential US ban hangs over TikTok.
The threat to ban TikTok stems from legislation signed by President Biden last year that seeks to ban the popular platform in the US on January 19 if ByteDance does not sell. Oral arguments in the case focused on the potential ban are expected to be presented on Friday Supreme Court.
Both social media applications belong to the Chinese technology company ByteDance.

Lemon8 has been around for over four years. It is also active in multiple countries, including Japan, where it was originally released, and the US, where it was introduced in early 2023.
The app allows users to “discover and share useful content related to beauty, fashion, travel and more,” according to a recent TikTok statement.
It contains “creative tools, collages, filters, effects, stickers and text templates” that users can use when publishing posts on the platform, the statement said.
It has integration with TikTok, allowing users to have a single account for both apps. This possibility became available in November.

FOX Business has reached out to ByteDance for comment on whether Lemon8 could potentially be affected by the law, which is expected to be considered by the Supreme Court. It targets websites and apps “operated, directly or indirectly” by ByteDance, TikTok and affiliates, according to the text.
Lemon8 appears in both the Apple App Store and Google Play in the US, where it has ratings of 4.5 and 3.8 stars, respectively.
CapCut, Lark and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang are among the apps ByteDance has along with TikTok and Lemon8. In the US, more than 170 million people use its TikTok app.

ByteDance was founded in 2012.
Its co-founders, Zhang Yiming and Liango Rubo, are both billionaires, worth $45.6 billion and $2.2 billion, respectively, according to Forbes.
