“We Called It Bed-gate” — Challenge’s Cara Maria Describes Unprecedented “Drama” Between Olivia, Theo and Johnny Bananas


Challenge: Battle of the Epochs episode 17 aired last week on December 18, 2024. The segment was the last before the finale and saw Empress Maria’s journey come to an end after a water-based elimination task against Tori Deal.

After the cast member was eliminated, she spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her time on the show and got involved in a few things that didn’t make it into the final installment. She discussed the drama between Johnny Bananas, Olivia Kaiser, and Theo Campbell and noted that she was surprised no one was talking about “bed-gate.”

The cast revealed that Olivia and Theo, whose relationship blossomed in Season 40, joined their beds on the Era 1 side after most of the crew was eliminated. She said they wanted privacy, but other people started sleeping in their “place”. She discovered that Johnny Bananas didn’t want them “on the other side of the house” and hatched a plan.

She said it was “the weirdest thing” and Olivia and Theo were “so angry” because Johnny was acting like they couldn’t be “on the other side of the house”.

“There was all this drama and we called it bed-gate,” she said.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Queen Mary reflected on her Challenge season 40 journey. She got involved in some of the non-televised stuff, including her, Tori, and Olivia listening in on Johnny Bananas’ “sermon.”

“We’d hear him talking loudly and we’d be like, ‘Shit about us’. We were literally building human ladders to climb all the way up to the balcony where Johnny was talking and we were listening,” she said. he said.

Challenge season 40 cast member recalled Michele Fitzgerald becoming “so angry” that she stormed into the room and told Banana that they could hear everything. At the time, Cara told Michele that she “blew” their place because they could listen to a lot more.

Cara Maria invited the recording season 40 “fun” and said the cast made the best of “living in Satan’s hole.” She said it was hot in the house, but they did their best and recalled not going out until after dark to beat the heat.

Cara Maria was further asked about her “hot attitude”. Challenge season 40 and wondered why they brought 40 people to compete on the show when they were going to be “kicked out” in the very first episode. A cast member wondered if there would be a reunion of just those people or at least a follow-up show.

“If we didn’t want to have a foreclosure, then I feel like we missed out,” she added.

Challenge the Season 40 star said the post-elimination goals could have been kept secret. Cara thought it would have been “a lot crazier” if the contestants wrote down their targets before elimination and no one knew who they were. She said it would be an “instant turn” and cause more paranoia in the house.

The cast additionally pitched in by giving Banana one Karma point during her elimination from Challenge: Battle era. She said no one else got a low number and she gave everyone else an A. She said she doesn’t want to “meddle” in anyone else’s game, including Jordon, despite their turbulent past.
