WATCH: Vinod Kambli pays heartfelt tribute to Sunil Gavaskar despite struggling to walk

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli recently faced a serious health challenge, he was admitted to Akruti Health City Hospital in Thane due to high fever. The cricketing legend’s condition has worried fans and the cricketing fraternity. However, after receiving medical attention, Kambli was discharged and began his recovery.

Despite his improved condition, he looked visibly frail and walked with difficulty at the 50th anniversary celebrations of Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium.

The Wankhede Stadium has been a historic venue for cricket greats from Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar modern stars like Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane. For Kambli, this soil holds a special place in his heart. The stadium has witnessed many of his achievements and milestones in cricket. At the celebration he organized Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA)Kambli was awarded for his contribution to sports.

During the event, Kambli made a touching gesture by walking towards Gavaskar, one of his idols in cricket, to touch his feet as a mark of respect. The moment emphasized his deep admiration for Gavaskar, but also highlighted Kambli’s physical struggles, as he visibly struggled to walk. Despite this, fans and fellow cricketers were relieved to see him on the road to recovery.

Kambli’s advice to aspiring cricketers

Looking back on his fond memories at the Wankhede Stadium, Kambli recalled scoring his maiden double hundred against England in this place, which marked the beginning of many hundreds more in his career. “I remember I scored my first double hundred here against England and then I scored many more hundreds in my career,” he said.

Kambli advised aspiring cricketers to work hard, like he and Tendulkar did since childhood, to achieve their dreams of playing for India. “If anyone wants to play for India like me or Sachin, I would advise them to keep working hard and never give up because that’s what Sachin and I have been doing since childhood,” the former batsman said on the occasion.
