The match, held at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad, witnessed an outstanding performance by Desai, who took an incredible 9 wickets in an innings, leaving the spectators in awe.

Desai’s spell was nothing short of remarkable. In just 15 overs, he took 9 wickets, conceding just 36 runs at an economy rate of 2.40. Impressively, he bowled 5 maiden overs, further demonstrating his control and accuracy. This remarkable achievement not only led to Uttarakhand’s downfall in their first innings but also set a new standard in Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy history. Desai’s figures surpassed the previous record held by Gujarat’s former left-arm spinner Rakesh Dhruvwho took 8 wickets for 31 runs against Rajasthan in 2012.

Desai’s exceptional performance is now etched in Ranji Trophy history as the third best bowling figure ever recorded in the competition. First place still belongs Anshul Kambojwho took all 10 wickets for Haryana against Kerala in November 2024. Additionally, Mumbai’s Ankeet Chavan had previously claimed 9 wickets for just 23 runs against Punjab in December 2012, but now Desai’s feat has added a new chapter to the record book.

Uttarakhand struggles against Gujarat bowling
Uttarakhand were expected to put up a solid performance, winning the toss and electing to bat first. However, they were quickly overwhelmed by Gujarat’s fearsome bowling attack. Uttarakhand were bowled out for just 111 runs, with Desai leading the charge and claiming 9 wickets. of Gujarat Vishal Jayswal he also played a supporting role, contributing with one wicket to ensure Uttarakhand’s early collapse.
