WATCH: Liam Dawson grabs a one-handed stunner to dismiss JJ Smuts in SA20 2025.
Liam Dawson he produced an incredible moment of brilliance during Game 14 SA20 2025 at St George’s Park, leaving fans and players in awe. The Eastern Cape Sunrisers all-rounder showed incredible athleticism and reflexes to grab a one-handed blinder, kicking JJ Smuts and further derail the Durban Super Giants innings.
Liam Dawson makes a brilliant catch to get rid of JJ Smuts
The breathtaking effort came in the 5th over of Durban’s innings. Richard Gleeson delivered a long ball out of bounds, which JJ Smuts sharply struck forward. For a brief moment the ball looked headed for the boundary, but Dawson had other plans. Sprinting down the right, Dawson reached out with his weaker arm and latched onto the ball, defying logic and physics. The fact that the ball had already passed him when he grabbed it elevated the effort into one of the best catches of the tournament so far.
Smuts was stunned, Quinton de Kock he could hardly believe his eyes in the dressing room and the Durban Super Giants found themselves in even more trouble as Dawson’s brilliance added to their woes.

Sunrisers dominance in the game
Sunrisers bowlers in the Eastern Cape, led by the effort Marco Jansen and Gleeson, capitalized on the early breakthroughs, bundling out the Durban Super Giants for a paltry 115/8 in 20 overs. Kane WilliamsonA patient 44 was the only bright spot for the batting side, while Naveen-ul-Haq’s late cameo of 30 off 15 balls provided resistance.
In reply, Sunrisers hit the target in 15.2 overs, with David Bedinghama fiery 39 off 20 balls and Aiden Markram‘s made 31 of 20 to seal the win.
While Sunrisers produced a complete performance to secure a six-wicket victory, Dawson’s one-handed wonder was undoubtedly the highlight of the match.
