Walmart is recalling more than 12,000 cases of chicken soup in Alabama, Arkansas
Walmart stores recently recalled more than 12,000 cases of chicken soup from two states over concerns that the product’s packaging was compromised.
The recalled product is a Great Value brand chicken soupwhich was sold in 48-ounce containers, the Food and Drug Administration said in a statement.
Recall it was launched on December 11, but the notice was posted on the FDA website on January 8.

The recalled boxes were sent to stores in Alabama and Arkansas, the FDA said in a statement.
The reason for the recall is “the possibility of packaging defects that could compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage.”
The recall covers a total of 2,023 cases. Each case includes six products, which means 12,138 cartons of soup they were recalled.
The recalled products had a “best before” date of March 25, 2026.
They carry the UPC code “007874206684.”

The recall notice did not state whether any illnesses were reported due to the consumption of chicken soup.
Anyone who thinks they may have a recalled item should contact Walmart, according to store policy.
Unopened boxes or cans of chicken soup can sit in the pantry for years, according to the Southern Living website.

However, once those items are opened, leftover soup should be refrigerated for about three to four days, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s website.

Alternatively, leftover chicken soup can be frozen and kept in the freezer for two to three months, the USDA says.
Any leftover chicken broth that gives off a strange odor or looks discolored or moldy is spoiled and should not be consumed, Southern Living adds.
Eating spoiled chicken soup can cause food poisoning.
