Vinicius Junior has spoken out after his controversial red card in the win over Valencia

Vinicius Junior apologized after his red card in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Valencia on Friday night.

The Brazilian forward was given his marching orders with 11 minutes remaining for shoving Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski, 1-0 down and after Jude Bellingham had missed a penalty earlier in the second half.

Just as it seemed Madrid were down and out, Luka Modrić equalizing in the 85th minute, before Bellingham made up for their mistake with a 95th-minute winner to send Los Blancos into the Super Cup final.

Now that he could celebrate the win, Vinicius wrote on social media: “We’re sorry and thank you team!”

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was not happy with the dismissal and confirmed after the game that the club would appeal, claiming that Vinicius was provoked by Dimitrievski.

“We thought it wasn’t a red card, but two yellows,” Ancelotti said. “We will appeal, I don’t think there will be any sanctions for him. We don’t think it was a red card.

“There was a touch by Dimitrievski and then a push by Vini. I think it was solved with two yellow cards. Vini suffered and I don’t want to say that he fell into a trap. There are days when things go well for him, and other times a little less, I hope that will be able to play in the next game.”

MARCH The Spanish FA has already admitted that Vinicius was provoked and plans to issue a two-match ban, instead of the traditional four-match suspension that comes with typical acts of violent behaviour.
