A Houthi spokesman in Yemen, Mohammed Abdulsalam, said the country would continue to defend itself after several US attacks on facilities in the capital Sana’a on Tuesday.
The US military said it carried out strikes on Houthi targets in Sana’a and coastal locations in Yemen on Monday and Tuesday.
“On December 30 and 31, US Navy ships and aircraft targeted Houthi command and control facilities and advanced conventional weapons (ACW) production and storage facilities that included missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs),” US Central Command said. army in a post on Xu, formerly Twitter.
The affected facilities were said to have been used in attacks on US Navy warships and merchant ships in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. US Navy and Air Force planes also destroyed a Houthi coastal radar site, seven cruise missiles and an unmanned aerial vehicle over the Red Sea, it said.
An Iranian-backed militant group in Yemen has been attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea for more than a year to try to enforce a naval blockade of Israel, saying it is acting in solidarity with Palestinians in Israel’s year-long war in Gaza.
The Houthi media office said on Tuesday that 10 airstrikes hit the facility on May 22 in the northern Thurah district of Sana’a, and two more hit the Aradi facility, which houses the rebels’ Ministry of Defense in central Sana’a.
Mohammed Abdul-Salam, the Houthis’ chief negotiator and spokesman, called the attacks “a grave violation of the sovereignty of an independent state.”
