Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, it gained 0.17% to hit a new all-time high.
The best performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON: ), which rose 2.93% or 19.50 points to 685.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo-American PLC (LON:) added 2.85% or 72.50 points to end at 2,620.50 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:) was up 2.55% or 185.00 points to 7,455.00 in late trade .
The worst performers of the session were Rentokil Initial PLC (LON: ), which was down 2.20% or 8.50 points to 377.80 at the close. Hiscox Ltd (LON:) was down 2.17% or 24.00 points to 1,080.00 and Beazley PLC (LON:) was down 1.48% or 12.50 points to 833.50.
On the London Stock Exchange, gainers outnumbered decliners by 839 to 821, while 633 ended unchanged.
Gold futures for February delivery fell 0.85%, or 23.49, to $2,725.21 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude for March delivery fell 1.07% or 0.83 to $76.56 a barrel, while the March Brent crude contract fell 0.83% or 0.67 to $80.12 per barrel.
GBP/USD rose 0.85% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.14% to 0.85.
US dollar index futures fell 0.94% to 108.18.
