WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump was invited to address the joint session of Congress on March 4, a Republican chairman of Mike Johnson said on Saturday.

“It is an exceptional honor and great privilege to invite President Donald Trump to turn to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, to share his vision of our future in the first place,” Johnson said on the Social Media Platform, sharing a letter calls. The letter was also published by his office.

It will be Trump’s first address since he took over his duty on January 20th. Trump’s Republican Party has a close majority in the House of Representatives and a more comfortable majority in Senate.

The print secretary of the Karolina Leavitt White House confirmed that Trump would turn to March 4.

The president is likely to go through his agenda and goals for the year during his remarks.

Trump forces a plan of explicit use of higher customs revenue on imported goods to pay the extension of the trillion of dollars of tax reduction. He threatened the comprehensive import customs duties, but he had not yet introduced them.

Legislators and analysts said that such pressure is likely to face the opposition of many Republicans in Congress, especially the budget hawks concerned with the reliability and durability of customs revenues together with the potential dangers that the trade wars represent for individual district and voters.

The president and his allies say that he wants to use customs duties like personal and corporate taxes that make up the vast majority of American revenues, raising customs to pay government programs and cover the promised tax reductions.
