Trump picks former State Department spokeswoman Ortagus as deputy Middle East envoy
President-elect Donald Trump announced via Truth Social his former State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus will serve as Deputy Special Presidential Envoy for Middle East Peace.
In an announcement Friday afternoon, Trump announced that Ortagus will be operating below Steven WitkoffNew York real estate tycoon selected as Middle East envoy in November.
“Morgan fought me for three years, but I hope she learned her lesson” Trump wrote in the post. “These things don’t usually work, but she has strong Republican support, and I’m not doing this for myself, I’m doing it for them. Let’s see what happens.”

He added that she will “hopefully” be an asset to Witkoff.
“We strive to bring peace and prosperity a very troubled region,” Trump wrote. “I expect great results, and soon!”

Ortagus, active US Navy A reserve intelligence officer, she was a spokeswoman at the State Department from 2019 to 2021, where she was a member of Trump’s Abraham Accords team.
