Mohamed Salah has insisted once again that he is in his “last year” at Liverpool, highlighting his desire to mark the occasion by lifting the Premier League title.
Salah has entered the final six months of his contract and is not shying away from public pressure on Liverpool. The Egyptian representative claimed that “more outside than inside” back in November, and later he insisted on playing his “the last game” against Manchester City at Anfield.
Now in the final six months of his existing deal, Salah is free to discuss a deal with clubs abroad. The 32-year-old claimed in an interview with Sky Sports News with which he is focused on winning the title Liverpool but admitted his desire stems from the fact his time with the Reds is coming to an end.
“In my interviews for the last seven or eight years, I always say [I want to win the] Champions League. But this is the first time I’ve said I really want to win the Premier League with Liverpool,” he began.
Asked to explain why domestic success is more important to him now, Salah replied: “I have no idea. It’s probably because we didn’t celebrate the one we won in the way we wanted and also, coming back here, it’s my last year in club, so you want to do something special for the city.”
The seriousness of Salah’s comments was soon highlighted when the Egyptian was asked if he truly believed this was his last year at Liverpool.
“So far, yes,” Salah said. “That’s the last six months.
“There is no progress there. We are far from any progress. So we just have to wait and see.
“The thing in my mind is if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say I was worried or stressed about the contract? Or do you just want to say I had an amazing season? That’s what it’s in my head.
“If I ever feel distracted, I just remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an amazing season. That’s what I want to do.”
