The Speaker of the Supervisory House says there is evidence of Conservative debanking, hinting at an investigation
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., has hinted at investigations of financial institutions into claims by conservatives that they are bankrollers. This comes after President Donald Trump called out bank chiefs during his address at the World Economic Forum.
The Kentucky Republican revealed to ‘Sunday morning futures‘ anchor Maria Bartiromo that there are ‘numerous examples’ of these claims.
MARIA BARTIROMO: …Are you researching US banks debanking conservatives or not?
TRUMP’S COMMENTS IN DAVOS REIGNITE THE DEBANKING CONTROVERSY
TAIL. JAMES COMER: Yes, we did. We have heard numerous cases of conservatives debanking, and what we want to know is, is this the process of the banks’ ESG policy? Is this – or is this our government stepping in? Like what we found with Twitter and Facebook where the government stepped in and said it wanted certain conservatives deplatformed and censored and certain conservative content removed? We want to know again if this is government involvement, another dirty trick The Joe Biden administrationor is it just bad liberal politics discriminating against conservatives by the banks?
MARIA BARTIROMO: Woof. So you have evidence that some banks have debanked conservatives?
TAIL. JAMES COMER: That. Especially people who have been involved in various energy-related businesses and things like that, as well as very well-spoken and outspoken conservative activists. So, there are enough examples to reopen the investigation. Is this an ESG policy that is discriminatory? And ironically, the Democrats passed all that banking law that prohibits discrimination. Is it discriminatory because of ESG or is it because of the government? Are the bank controllers, as President Trump hinted in his remarks [you played earlier,] are these bank controllers winking and nodding saying ‘don’t let this person bank at your bank?’
MARIA BARTIROMO: … What will be the impact on these banks? What should these banks expect from your office in the coming months?
TAIL. JAMES COMER: Well, they’re going to be asked a lot of questions, and I’ll say this about the banks, during the Biden influence peddling investigation, the banks were the only entity that cooperated with us. So I expect the banks to cooperate with our questions and I hope we get some answers. Number one, find out if our government was involved in this, if this is another side operation of the Biden administration where they were attacking conservatives. At the very least, we want to change that. You know, we’re not talking about debanking, which means they refused credit, which happens every day in the banking world. This is only the opening of savings accounts and current accounts. I mean, this is outrageous to do, and it’s against the law, the law, ironically, that the Democrats created against discrimination.
