‘The opposite of a squatter’: a passenger on a flight shares an unexpected encounter with a fellow passenger
“Seat squatters” may have met the pair as a passenger revealed her encounter with someone she called a “seat angel”.
On the sub-Reddit thread “r/unitedairlines,” a user shared her experience on recent flight which opposes the recent rise of “seat squatters”, passengers who rob seats chosen and paid for by other air passengers.
A user captioned the topic: “The opposite of a seat squatter? A seat angel?”

“I’ve seen a bunch of seat posts recently and I’d like to share the opposite experience,” the user wrote.

“My husband and I were the last to board our connecting flight because [our] the first flight was 20 minutes late. We upgraded to the first one [class] late and there was an aisle seat and a window seat available in different rows.”
The flight passenger said that the two seats were not next to each other and the woman was already sitting on the seat next to her husband.
The woman was traveling alone and decided to offer her seat so the two could sit next to each other, according to a post on Reddit.

“We thanked her from the bottom of our hearts and wished her happy holidays,” the user wrote.

“I’ve never experienced this before…Would any of you do what this lady did? I don’t know if I would have the consciousness to do it as [I’m] I usually play a game on my phone to pass the time waiting for a reply.”
The user wrote that she and her husband never asked the woman to switch seats so that they could sit next to each other.

Users commenting on the thread on Reddit claimed to have had the same positive experience or to have gone out of their way to help people get seated with their companions.

“Same thing happened to us this summer. Before we could ask, a guy noticed and offered to swap,” one user wrote, adding: “Much easier in first class IMO. He didn’t have to do it though, and it would have been good thing no one wanted to change. It was amazing we didn’t even have to ask.”
Another user commented: “A very kind man once did this for me and my mom, even though I’m an adult. We didn’t ask, he just saw us and offered to swap and said he loves when he gets to spend time with his grown children and wanted would have the opportunity to fly next to them if they travel together.”
Original thread creator responded to one user’s story, saying, “This is honestly so encouraging that more people would do it! Thank you so much from a couple that loves to fly together. I fly alone half the time and will definitely pay more attention during boarding now.”

“If you want to sit next to someone specific, like a friend or a family member, it’s okay to ask another passenger to switch seats with you. It’s their right to refuse or not,” Whitmore told Fox News Digital.
