Manchester United winger Antony has been identified as January transfer target Real Betis of La Liga, and the Red Devils cannot recruit without first rejecting a player.
Antony has played just 356 minutes for United at the halfway point this season and is yet to start a Premier League game after falling to the bottom of the winger pecking order under successive bosses Erik ten Haag and Ruben Amorim.
The Brazilian scored in each of his first three Premier League appearances in the autumn of 2022, including the win over Arsenal, but has since famously struggled to justify a hugely inflated £86m transfer fee.
The Times notes that United will find it difficult to offload in general in the January market, with only Marcus Rashford and Antonius causing any interest. Betis wants the latter on loan – as the former revealed ABC – but would have to contribute to his £150,000-a-week wages and lose existing winger Assane Diao.
“We don’t have that option [to buy] in January if we don’t take some players [out of the squad]. It’s not like I come here and I can spend money changing teams.” Amorim said.
Antonia, though who United scouts have reportedly identified as a £25m player during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign, he was hailed as one of the brightest young talents in Europe during his days at Ajax.
