The past year was filled with several shocking and viral police encounters and courtroom moments, whether they involved a suspect lunging at a judge or officers ambushed while investigating a 911 call.
Here are some of the most interesting police encounters and courtroom moments in 2024.
Clark County, Nevada Judge for Inmate Assaults
AND Clark County, Nevada, a judge and a marshal were injured in early January after a defendant who had been denied bail threw himself over the bench and attacked the judge, the video shows.
In a video obtained by Fox News Digital, Redden’s attorney asked the judge give your client probation.
“I think it’s time he tasted something else,” Holthus replied.
Redden is then seen flying in the air above the bench with his arms and legs outstretched, before landing on the referee.
The defendant, who grabbed the judge by the hair, had to be pushed off her by her clerk, Michael Lasso, and several court and prison officials, some of whom threw punches. Lasso was treated for cuts on his hands, and the marshal was hospitalized for a dislocated shoulder and a cut on his forehead. Holthus suffered some injuries but returned to work the next day.
Redden ultimately pleaded guilty but mentally ill in September to attempted murder and other charges shortly after Hothus testified she feared for her life when he jumped her four-foot-tall bench and landed on top of her.
In December, a judge sentenced Redden to between 26 and 65 years in a Nevada prison for the attack.
The courtroom erupts into chaos as the son bursts in and shoots his father’s killer

Video of the attack was captured on CCTV from a courtroom in São José do Belmonte. The video shows the judges and jury running for cover as Cristiano Alves Terto (27) shot Franscic Cleidivald Mariano de Moura (38).
It remains unclear how Terto ended up in the courtroom with the .38 caliber revolver. The attack took place on November 29, 2023, but the police did not release the video until April 1, 2024.

Terto chased Moura around the courtroom and continued the attack with blows to the defendant’s head. The police who were on the scene chased him out of the room and eventually arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder.
Moura survived the attack, but had to go to a local hospital and then transferred to a larger facility for treatment. He has since been fired, according to Jam Press.
Jurors help stop Maine man trying to flee court while handcuffed
AND Maine man tried to flee the courthouse in handcuffs after being convicted of assaulting a one-year-old when two jurors and a detective managed to thwart his escape attempt.
Nicholas Carter, 31, was seen fleeing the Skowhegan Town Courthouse in handcuffs in September.
Carter was found guilty of aggravated assault on a one-year-old child, according to the allegations Portland Press Herald. His conviction followed a three-day trial in Somerset County Superior Court.
According to media reports, Carter jumped over the bar in handcuffs and exited through the back door of the courtroom on the second floor. The door serves members of the public to enter and exit the gallery.

Several videos show Carter, still in handcuffs, running down a courthouse hallway and avoiding a lawyer who tried unsuccessfully to stop him from escaping.
He was then seen running out of the main entrance to the courthouse while he was being chased by several people.
The video also shows Carter running across the parking lot and across the street before eventually tripping and falling in the yard, where two bystanders, who were also jurors during the trial, held him down until a detective caught up to him.
Carter was remanded in custody and now faces s charge of escape in connection with the incident.

Corey Harris caused an uproar online when a video of his May 15 Zoom hearing regarding his suspended license went viral. The video shows Harris driving, which baffled Judge Cedric Simpson, who revoked his bail and ordered him to surrender to authorities at a local jail.
The court case quickly spread like wildfire across the Internet in the days that followed. In an interview with WXYZ-TV, Harris said he had the legal right to drive and that a mistake was made.
But during the ensuing hearing, in which Harris was present in the courtroom, Simpson said that Harris had never had a driver’s license, Fox Detroit reported. The Michigan Department of State told Fox News Digital that Harris never obtained a state driver’s license.
Suspect from Illinois opens fire on deputies
Dramatic body cam footage with Ogle County, Illinois, revealed the terrifying moments three of the first shots were fired during a standoff at a Dixon home.
Officials say 32-year-old Jonathan Gounaris, who allegedly shot at law enforcement officers when they entered his home, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and several weapons offenses.
The Ogle County Sheriff’s Officerural community 100 miles west of Chicago, was initially called on June 12 to check on a person who was making suicidal and homicidal threats. The owner of the house called 911 and warned that her son was in possession of several firearms.
Hours after hostage negotiators tried to contact the person as many as 60 times by phone, an emergency response team entered the house.

The released video shows that they were shot at as soon as they opened the door. — Shots fired! one of the deputies shouts on the video. Deputies returned fire and were able to incapacitate the suspect.
During the exchange of gunfire, Tactical Paramedic Tyler Carls of the Rochelle Fire Department was hit in the armor, Oregon City Police Sergeant Tad Deminsky suffered a gunshot wound to the upper arm, and Lt. Jason Ketter, of the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, was shot in the face.
Body camera footage shows members of the emergency response team helping Ketter.
The suspect, Gounaris, was found inside the home with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He underwent surgery for his injury at a local hospital, authorities said.
All three MPs who were shot have since been released from the hospital.
Police said Gounaris was in possession of multiple firearms, a fixed blade knife, pepper spray and ballistic body armor.
Fort Lauderdale police, gunman exchange fire at hotel
The officer shouted, “I’m hit. I’m pretty well hit,” like burst fire echoed on the sixth floor of the Florida hotel.
Fort Lauderdale police received an “urgent text” at 7:39 a.m. March 21 from a hotel guest who said, “Murder,” without context, and the caller did not respond to further attempts by police to make contact.
By 8:42 a.m., the Holiday Inn was cleared, and respective officers — unsure if there was another person in the room — ordered the suspect to come out with his hands up, newly released bodycam footage shows.
When the door opened, the attacker opened fire on a squad of police officers, who were trapped on a cramped floor of the hotel with no place to take cover.
The attacker – later identified as Karl Chludinsky – slammed the door, but the shooting continued through the closed door.
Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Jack DiCristofalo was killed as the shootout raged.
DiCristofalo was injured, but his vest saved his life. He was given medical treatment at the hospital and was released the same day, the police said.
Bodycam captures wild shooting in Houston as officers respond to active home invasion
Houston police have released a series of body camera videos showing officers responding to an active home robbery when one of the suspects ambushed them with a gun in front of a mother and her children.
Three men were arrested, including the two gunmen who appeared at the home on video and their alleged getaway driver, according to authorities.
The mother on the floor begs for help inside alerted the officials that “there’s another one” when they entered the home and encountered the first suspect in her kitchen.
A second later, another man jumped out the back entrance and opened fire.
One of the officers suffered a gunshot wound to the leg after police said Raymond Perez, 35, opened fire.
The video shows that he immediately returned fire as he fell to the ground. At the same time, another officer handcuffed Michael Perez, 38, in the kitchen of a home on Alderney Drive. Video shows he found a gun during the arrest, and Perez can be heard telling the officer he also had a knife.
Raymond Perez fled out the back door, but backup officers caught him on the street about a block away, the video shows.
The wounded officer, Scott Durfee, fights the pain on the floor as he holds his weapon up in an attempt to protect the woman and her children who were just feet away during the exchange of fire.

His partner handcuffed Michael Perez, then rushed over with a tourniquet. An ambulance arrived minutes later to take Durfee, an eight-year veteran of the department, to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. He was given help and released in the meantime.
Police later arrested a third suspect, the alleged driver identified as Brian A. Garcia Chavez, 18, of Hollister Road.
