The Colombian President calls an illegal immigrants to the US to return home for days after diplomatic spit
Colombian President Gustavo Petro persuades Colombian nationals to the US -in illegally to return home, promising to provide loans to those who return, for days after being involved in diplomatic controversy with the USA
“I asked the unfathomable Colombians to the United States to leave their jobs in that country as soon as possible and return to Colombia,” Petro said on X.
“Wealth only produces working people.
“The Department of Social Prosperity … will endeavor to provide productive loans to returnees who are enrolled in their programs,” he said. “Let’s build social wealth in Colombia.”
Petro initially declined on Sunday to do the deportation flights Colombian nationalssaying that now I can’t “treat Colombian migrants as criminals.”
Trump’s administration, in response, announced the immediate suspension of visa issuing and the sanctions of traveling to government officials. President Donald Trump warned that the stinging of 25% of tariffs to all goods from Colombia.
“Measures will continue until Columbia fulfills its obligations to accept the return of their own citizens,” State Secretary Marco Rubio said. “America will not retire when it comes to defending their interests of national security.”
Initially, Petro took revenge on his own 25% of tariffs on US goods. Petro insisted that he would not accept the return of migrants who were not treated with “dignity and respect” and who arrived in the shackled or military planes.
