The California resident’s house is the only one left on the block after the wildfires in LA
A man from California whose home was the only one on his block spared from the Eaton Fire he recorded a stunning video showing the devastation in his neighborhood, saying “God knew what he had to do to protect me.”
Enrique Balcazar took the video on January 9 while returning to see what was left his community in Altadena.
“This is across the street, the house on the corner and two houses in front and the whole street to my right is decimated,” he said. “As far as I could see, every house on my block was burned, except mine.”
“Why do I deserve this? I don’t know. I don’t think I do. But God bless everyone else with lots of insurance to rebuild. God knew what he had to do to protect me,” added Balcazar, becoming emotional.

Video taken by Balcazar shows him walking around his property to inspect any damage. As he pans the camera around, his neighborhood appears to be in ruins, while the eerie chirping of crows can be heard in the background.
“Everyone behind me, how is this? How could this even be true? Everyone behind me was burned,” Balcazar continues, noting that the lumber he used to build his house extension was consumed by a forest fire.
“Even the timber we built in the extension of the house, but my house is whole. But my timber also burned, how could it be if not God? The neighbors left,” he said.

At one point in the video, Balcazar reveals that part of the roof of his garage is still smoldering.
“The garage is still standing. I don’t understand how this is happening. This is God,” he said.
“Okay, we’re going to put some water on it right now, make sure we put it out so it doesn’t catch fire again,” Blacazar added before the end of the video.
