The California Highway Patrol gets into monkey business during a routine traffic stop


A routine traffic stop took an unusual turn when a California Highway Patrol officer stopped the Rolls-Royce in Madera County on Monday.

Officials pulled back in 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost for speeding on Highway 99, but were surprised to find Spider Monkey in the car.

The CHP noted that finding an exotic animal in an exotic car makes a “traffic stop with a twist” particularly bizarre.

Animal control safely apprehended the monkey and eventually transferred it to the Oakland Zoo for proper care. (CHP Madera)

The a monkey is trusted be a month old, and primates are illegal to own as pets in California.

The driver, identified as Ali Mused Adel Mohamed, 27, was also found to be under the influence and was arrested for DUI and possession of cannabis for sale, police officials said.

Animal control must have taken the monkey into custody and eventually transferred it to Oakland Zoo receive appropriate care.

The CHP says Mohamed is facing charges in the incident.

“Top level monkey business! The driver was booked into the Madera County Jail and is facing several charges, including possession of an exotic animal,” they wrote on their social media accounts.
