“He was not the first choice, but certain situations led to his appointment,” the official explained.
Since taking over, Gambhir’s success hasn’t been great. India lost the series against Sri Lanka, New Zealandand now he is fighting in Australia. Many feel that his expertise is better suited to T20 cricket, where he excels both as a captain and as a mentor.
Kohli’s struggles—an open issue
One of the biggest criticisms against Gambhir has been his inability to address Virat Kohli ongoing struggles outside the stumps. Kohli’s dismissals in that channel have been a recurring problem, but no concrete solution has emerged.
