The Barcelona president accidentally released a major update on Dani Olmo’s registration


Barcelona president Joan Laporta appears to have issued a message of support for the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over the ongoing battle to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.

The pair, initially registered through interim measures following Andreas Christensen’s injury, had their contracts expire on December 31 after Barcelona failed to raise the necessary funds in time. League rules dictate that players cannot de-register and re-register in the same season.

Club officials are still in frantic negotiations to try to rectify the situation, and on Friday night there was a flurry of reports, starting with a unanimous agreement by all media outlets that Barcelona officially reverted to La Liga’s 1:1 spending rules after declaring the first 60 million euros from their sale of VIP seats in the amount of 120 million euros and return below their salary cap.

MARCHhowever, they state that there has been no change in Olmo and Victor’s situation, with La Liga continuing to claim that Barcelona simply missed the deadline to re-register the pair.

It was followed up on SPORTwho notes that Barcelona have once again contacted the RFEF to try to overturn La Liga’s ruling.

With that in mind, Jijantes has taken a screenshot of what is claimed to be Laporta’s now-deleted WhatsApp story, in which an alleged statement from the RFEF appears to order that La Liga’s re-registration rule cannot be applied in this case.

“The RFEF, after listening to FCB’s arguments, shares the same in that article. 130.2 of the RFEF Regulations is NOT applicable to the case of Olmo and Pau Victor, because in that case the loss of these players occurred and not due to the will of the club (which stated in the aforementioned article), but by factors outside and against the will of the club,” the press release states.

“It is an undeniable fact that both the club and the players want to remain in the FCB team for the whole season. This interpretation of the rules is in accordance with the evident purpose of the article, which is precisely to promote the stability of the composition of the players’ composition.”
