The avalanche in the French Alps kills the Brazilian-Portuguese skiers
The man died in a “very large” avalanche in the French Alps on Tuesday, local officials confirmed.
The body of a double Brazilian-Portuguese nationality was found at the Les Grands Montets resort at the foot of Mont Blanc, the rescuers said.
The avalanche, which occurred around 16:35 of the local time (15:35 GMT), was 1 km (0.6 miles) and 400 m wide.
It was first reported that the victim was a British but public prosecutor and Chomonix High Mountain gendarmerie vod (PGGM) on Wednesday for the BBC that it was incorrect.
The avalanche has fallen into the external part of the part of Les Grands Montet, where the 55-year-old skied.
Ski patrol noticed on her way to the area to close the public because of very bad conditions.
Rescue teams attended the scene where the skier was declared dead.
PGHM told the BBC that the man’s family was informed. He added that he had not received reports on further victims.
The Haute-Savoie prefecture reminded skiers and excursionists on caution and following guidelines in the middle of January high risks of avalanche.
