Teofimo Lopez is looking for a buyout of the best rank, Eyes Free agency

Teofimo Lopez posted today on X, asking his promoters at Top Rank what his “redemption” number is so he can get out of the rest of his contract.

Why this sudden burst of energy from Lopez asking his promoters for a redemption number? He could see free agent Devin Haney fight at BLK Prime on March 25th and probably make good money. Teo might want to get in on the action.

Teofim’s departure from the highest rank?

As a free agent, Lopez could be snapped up by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom or he could choose to follow Haney’s strategy of staying put.

WBO welterweight champion Teofimo (21-1-1, 13 KOs) seems to believe he will have bigger fights after he leaves Top Rank, but it is questionable whether that will happen. Teo’s loss to George Kambosos Jr. and controversial wins over Jamaine Ortiz and Sandor Martin showed that he is a limited fighter.

How does Lopez not know his redemption number? His manager should be able to give him that information. Top Rank has done men’s work with Teofim during his career. It’s not their fault he’s looked so miserable since his one big career win against Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2020.

Teofimo is currently expected to fight former IBF light heavyweight champion Subriel Matias on March 15 in a non-PPV event on ESPN. There’s a good chance Lopez could lose that fight, as he looked terrible against Jamaine, Sandor and Steve Claggett.
