Ten people were killed and 30 injured after a person drove a vehicle into a large crowd of people in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana’s largest city, local officials said Wednesday.
The attack early on New Year’s Day was described by local authorities in a statement as a “mass casualty incident” that took place at Canal and Bourbon streets, in the heart of the city’s tourist district. The injured were treated in five hospitals in the area, the press release added.
Bourbon Street is one of the main streets in the city’s historic French Quarter, which is full of bars, restaurants and music venues, attracting local and foreign visitors.
