Substantial majority believe Trump will ‘control illegal immigration’: Poll

The vast majority of Americans believe that President-elect Donald Trump will control illegal immigration, while the president-elect expects a historic mass deportation campaign and additional border security measures when he takes office this month.

Gallup poll released Thursday found that 68% of Americans predict Trump will control illegal immigration. Only 28% of respondents said they would not.

Trump has made the fight against illegal immigration a cornerstone of his presidential bid, while the country is reeling from the historic migrant crisis at the southern border.

Trump promised to launch “the biggest domestic deportation operation in American history.”

The former president also vowed to invoke the Alien Enemy Act to “remove any known or suspected gang members, drug dealers, or cartel members from the United States” and shift law enforcement to immigration enforcement. He also promised to continue construction of the wall on the southern border. Construction began in his first administration, but was largely halted by the Biden administration.

Fox Digital previously reported plans to increase usage ankle monitors among those who cannot be detained and the possibility of expanding immigration detention facilities near large metropolitan areas. Trump named former acting ICE director Tom Homan as border czar and nominated South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to be the next homeland security secretary.
