WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Stacy Dixon is set to become President-elect Donald Trump’s acting director of national intelligence, a spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence told Reuters.
Dixon has been the principal deputy director of national intelligence since August 2021.
Trump has chosen Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat, to be the director of national intelligence, a position that must be confirmed by the Senate.
The Senate has not yet scheduled a hearing for Gabbard, whose 2017 visit to Syria to meet with then-Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and whose lack of significant intelligence experience raised concerns among some senators.
Dixon, appointed to her current post by President Joe Biden, will become the top official in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence at a time when Trump has promised to release documents related to the assassinations of Presidents John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
Trump, who has long said he believes the US government is making too many documents classified, said Sunday he would declassify the documents excessively. That job will likely fall to the next director of national intelligence, who is responsible for reviewing classification orders.
